A Member of the National Committee for Epidemics Control Bassam Hijjawi said that a new shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is set to arrive in the Kingdom Sunday evening.

On Jan. 13, Jordan began its national COVID-19 vaccination campaign, using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.  On Feb. 4, the Kingdom's health directorates began administering the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine in Jordan.

On Feb. 9, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) approved the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use. This makes AstraZeneca the third vaccine to get approved in the Kingdom after the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinopharm vaccines.

Last week, the head of the coronavirus portfolio at the Ministry of Health Wael Hayajneh announced which groups are excluded from receiving the coronavirus vaccine in Jordan.

Hayajneh stressed that those groups include pregnant and lactating women, or those who intend to become pregnant within three months.

Additionally, those who have excessive and severe allergies which leads to shortness of breath, as well as those who suffer from severe fevers are excluded from receiving the vaccine.
